The World Organisation for Animal Health (hereinafter referred to as the ‘OIE’) has agreed to provide funds to Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie. (hereinafter referred to as ‘Parent Institute’), for the purpose of supporting a Cooperation Project between Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie (the Parent Institute) and Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine (hereinafter referred to as the Candidate Institute) to carry out the Cooperation Project

The OIE Collaborating Centre for Epidemiology, Training and Control of Emerging Avian Diseases (PARENT INSTITUTE) has been established in 2007 with the mandate of developing epidemiological training and research activities on emerging avian diseases made available to OIE policies and projects. Since its foundation it enabled the development of several activities. Here is a list of the more relevant:

  • development of spatial statistical analyses and spatial models integrated with GIS applications. In this capacity the PARENT INSTITUTE has participated to different EU international research projects, of the 6th (Healthy Poultry, Flu Test, Epizone) and 7th (Discontools) EU framework programs,
  • contribution to the last phase of an OIE cooperation project for improving the Salmonella diagnostic and disease management capacity of the Central Vietnam Veterinary Institute, in collaboration with the OIE Reference Laboratory for Animal Salmonellosis at IZSVe. Active collaboration with the OIE Collaborating Centre for Diseases at the Human/ Animal Interface at the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie, implementing surveys and researches on Influenza and WND viruses,
  • training courses for the OIE and FAO on GIS and GPS receiver used in epidemiology and for (i) controlling emerging avian diseases. (held either in Italy, Bosnia Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, etc.), (ii) to provide epidemiological statistics training for veterinary service staff of Republic of Cyprus,
  • assessing of other countries’ avian influenza (AI) surveillance systems and control measures (South Africa) to assess the Avian Influenza control measures,
  • technical assistance on identification and traceability systems on the application of epidemiological methods and GIS tools for AI control and eradication,
  • implementation of GIS tools and epidemiological spatial analysis to HPAI / LPAI epidemics with the objective of establishing both containment and free zones,
  • organisation of workshops and conferences in partnership with FAO and OIE,
  • dissemination technical information and scientific data relevant to and consistent with the Parent Institute mandate on peer-reviewed journals

Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine (CAIQ)

The Institute of Animal Quarantine, Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine (CAIQ), was established to research and develop science and technology to be applied in animal quarantine in 2004, which affiliated to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ) . The Institute is dedicated to carrying out research on animal epidemic monitoring and detection, risk warning and emergency response mechanism. Here is a list of the more relevant:

  • providing technical instructions for animal quarantine throughout China,
  • training courses for AQSIQ on GIS used in siting of the quarantine farms,
  • carrying out international technical cooperation and exchange on animal Quarantine ,such as organization of Forum on Risk Communication on Cross– Border Spread of Animal Influenza in Trade Areas of Borders(ATC07/2010A)in 2011,
  • technical support on quarantine farm management for AQSIQ.
