Kick-off meeting
From 22nd to 27th November 2014
Executive summary
The first mission of IZSVe-experts to China was carried out with the main objective to perform a baseline assessment of CAIQ on GIS issues (Activity 1.2). The CAIQ partners were able to organize a successful meeting by inviting not only the prominent coordinators of the organization but also a group of scientists that have been involved in the project. All the topics listed in the meeting agenda (see Annex 1) were discussed and relevant agreements were taken. In particular, scientists discussed about the zoning principle described in chapter 4.3 of the OIE terrestrial code, and the role that a GIS framework can have in supporting the epidemiology and surveillance activities The meeting ended with a general satisfaction and with the feeling that both IZSVe and CAIQ acquired more knowledge on GIS aspects and surveillance on avian influenza and other emerging avian diseases.

Introductory Workshop
14th - 15th May 2015
Executive summary
The development of an effective GIS program often occurs in a fragmented organizational environment requiring a high level of inter-organizational collaboration. The way to improve inter-organisational collaboration is by improving GIS awareness. The workshop was designed to present activities related to GIS methods and the tools to use for surveillance, control and zoning for Avian Influenza and other emerging avian diseases in China. It was addressed to different CAIQ departments, scientists and to the management department. Moreover, the essential elements for a successful surveillance approach on emerging avian diseases were discussed.

Training of CAIQ scientists on GIS planning
From 19th to 30th October 2015
Executive summary
Introductory GIS components
By combining self-guided courses and exercises with face to face talks with IZSVe scientists, a skill development programme was organised under the following themes: GIS data, data capture and preparation, attribute and spatial data queries and cartography.
Advanced GIS and ESDA
By combining self-guided courses with face to face talks with IZSVe scientists, a skill development programme was organised under the following themes: GIS and epidemiology, basic spatial statistic, (ESDA).
Setting up a GIS laboratory
Setting up the physical laboratory facility to allow any type of GIS activities involves some major investment decisions. It was not easy to generalise, since local circumstances (budget, staff available) and needs (type and level of course, number of students, intended learning outcomes) vary enormously. Therefore, the CAIQ scientists were able to explore the solutions adopted by IZSVe in order to organise the GIS laboratory by face to face talks with IZSVe scientists.
